Teaching

Since I started my Ph D. at the University of Huddersfield, I have been involved with the teaching of some tutorials. This is something which I find quite time consuming and thought provoking, but generally rewarding.

I have been involved in the teaching of:

Fundamentals of IT
October 2001 - January 2002
I took two tutorial groups for this module,it is is a first year module, covering the basic of many aspects of computing

Database Fundementals
Feburary 2002 - July 2002
I am currently taking two tutorial groups for this module, it is a HND module, covering creating databases, querying them and then publishing them on the web. It uses MySQL and PHP.

Computer Architecture Systems and Networking
October 2001 - January 2002
I take four tutorial groups for this module, it is is a first year HND module, covering what the title suggests.

Research Methods
October 2001 - January 2001
I did a presentation on my research for this module, and attended some of the sessions.

CFS145 - Fundamentals of IT

Module Aim

To introduce learners to the general concepts and principles of information manipulation by computer.

Module synopsis:

This module addresses mechanisms by which digital computers manipulate data and the reasons for the various design choices made in the representation and manipulation of data. The module describes mechanisms for storing, manipulating, reading, writing and communicating data. The data involved are numeric, textual; graphical, audible etc.

CHS250 - Database Fundamentals

Module aims

Module synopsis:

This module will help students to become aware of database applications in the workplace. It introduces the learner to data modelling, application design and implementation of the relational model and database applications using Interne technology. Learners will have opportunities to underpin the lectures with practical application. This will help the students to appreciate current applications of database technology.

The Practical solutions, I will put them up a week after the tutorial:

CIS1308 - Computer Architecture Systems and Networking

Module aims

  • To introduce learners to the general concepts and principles of information manipulation by computer.
  • To develop the student's knowledge of computer communications systems and computer networks.
  • To provide experience in the hardware specification and software control of communications hardware.
  • To develop an awareness of contemporary communications protocols, standards and services.
  • To give an appreciation of typical communications applications by means of selected case studies.

The module will develop concepts of computer communications and networking. The selection of hardware and the application of support software will be considered for a range of communications applications, relevant to both local systems and wide-area networks and the Internet.

Research Methods

Module aims

  • To provide an understanding of the process of scientific research and discovery.
  • To provide some skill in methods of identifying and retrieving research information.

Module synopsis

The module will help students understand the context and the mechanisms involved in the development of science and engineering.
